Bolzano is one of those cases that are difficult to describe without risking undermining its beauty and complexity. A witness of the conflicts and renaissance of Europe, this Italian city is the capital of the German speaking province of South Tyrol. Located in the Adige River Valley, it is surrounded by hills crowned by castles, and framed by the Dolomites Alps.
After reaching the local railway station, follow the Bahnhofsallee or Viale della Stazione and you’ll reach Walther Square, where the beautiful Cathedral of the Assumption of Our Lady is located. The shops along the arcaded street of Via dei Portici will lead you towards the market, located in Goethe Strasse. The display of colourful vegetables and flowers encompasses the beautiful buildings, while some of the best luxury hotels in Bolzano are located nearby.

I highly recommend that if you visit Bolzano, you use the furnicular and go up to SopaBolzano. The ride is wonderful and you have a panoramic view. There is also a train on the top that you can go all along the top and look at the view. We had coffee and gelato at the little café at the top of the mountain. Such a relaxing, nice time. It was so much better than we expected.
It was so much better than we expected. Perfect combination between Austrian and Italian culture. You could eat schnitzels ánd pasta in almost every restaurant. Not too touristy (we went in September). Within 15 minutes you could go to the mountains by cable car for little money. The mountains (via Oberbozen for example) were very beautiful, wide and quiet. You could take a 100 year old tram in Oberbozen that went through the little villages up the mountains. 100% coming back! Tip: go by train! It was very accessible, we came from Innsbruck which is only a 2 hr train ride from Bolzano, including breathtaking views.Dieuwertje - 10Scored 10

We loved the South Tyrol Museum of Archeology, the MMM Fermian and the victory monument. Oberon Restaurant was an outstanding Pizza place and the staff are friendly too. The host does not smile a lot, but is always helpful to answer questions, and always try his best to make his guests comfortable. Despite the old fashion and simple style, the hotel was maintained very clean and standardized, especially equipped with air conditioners! In summer time it’s something must. At last, with this money, this hotel is definitely worth it, especially with the Bolzano Pass from the host, people can visit museums and taking buses for free! Great value, highly recommended.

We were planning to take day trips to the mountains and thought it would be nice to be outside the town of Bolzano. So it was perfect for that reason. Our room had a balcony and was lovely. The manager helped us find two restaurants and it was very nice. The breakfast coffee was nice and that is all I had for breakfast so I don't know if the rest of it was o.k.
